The Story of a Mural by the Designer’s
Perspective
by
Cici, Fremont Student
As you know, this year is J. C. Fremont’s 50th
year as a school. Since this school has been in use for so long we
decided to do something special, something to make our school more
unique. We decided to make a mural so that we can remember this
joyous year.
As the designer I knew it had to both represent this school
as well as the students here. I decided to go with
something mature, but colorful as well. At first, my design was very
formal and looked basically, like a certificate. We decided it was too formal
for our school. So, I decided to add balloons and a giant ribbon.
Also, I wanted to use
fun colors like red, blue, and yellow. After I knew what to base the
mural on, it all started to fall together and before I knew it I had
a design.
I showed my sketch to Mr. Kelly and he brought it up with our
principal Mr. Montoya. He approved it and Mr. Kelly, the Scribes and
I got started on the painting.
I think that out
of the whole project the painting was the hardest. Not only because
it was a huge mural, but also because we were painting on cement
brick. But, given the chance, I would do this again in a heartbeat.
I enjoyed it because I got a chance to make a great historic school
even better, and it will be appreciated for years to
come.
That’s my story about the designing and creating of John C.
Fremont’s 50th Anniversary mural.

Welcome to Fremont Forever
and Happy 50th Birthday to John C. Fremont Middle School!
Our school opened its door
to students for the 1955 -1956 school year. At that time, it
was an elementary school. In 1958, it was rededicated
as a junior high. As a middle school, Fremont is
now home to over 1200 sixth, seventh and eighth
graders. How many students have graduated from Fremont since
1955- 1956? That's anyone's guess, but the number must be
upwards of 50,000!
To mark the anniversary of
our fiftieth school year, Las Vegas Mayor Pro Tem Gary Reese has
worked to arrange for April 19th, 2006 to be proclaimed "John C.
Fremont Middle School Day" for the City of Las Vegas.
FremontForever.org is the
website for current and past students, administrators, families and
friends of John C. Fremont Middle School to find out how we at the
the school are celebrating our fiftieth birthday.
This website is brought to
you by the Fremont Scribes. We are students and families of
John C. Fremont Middle School who work together to write about our
lives. For more information about the Fremont Family Writing
Project and our Scribe groups, please visit www.Familywritingprojects.com.
